ESSSuper has named Mark Puli as its new chief executive.

ESSSuper has named acting chief executive Mark Puli as its new permanent chief.

Puli has been chief financial officer of the $16 billion fund since 2009, and was appointed acting chief executive in June last year after the resignation of Michael Dundon, who now heads up VicSuper.

"Mark brings to the CEO position proven skills and abilities along with personal qualities that enable ESSSuper to face the challenges of the changing superannuation industry with confidence," ESSSuper president Frank King said.

"Members can be assured that the existing high levels of service and sound fund performance will continue."

ESSSuper also appointed John Simpson as a government nominee to the board.

Simpson is managing director of John P Simpson and Associates and was a former strategic adviser to the National Australia Bank group chief executive's office.

He has also worked as a senior executive with Shell both, in Australia and internationally.
