Tom Hardwick has resurfaced as chief executive of childcare centre operator Redstone Group.

Former Abacus Property Group head of funds management Tom Hardwick has resurfaced as the chief executive of childcare business Redstone Group.

Redstone Group runs a childcare business that owns about 20 businesses and a management company called Guardian Childcare Alliance, which manages the company's centres plus 30 centres for external clients

In his new role, Hardwick will focus on the childcare asset portfolio, acquisitions and strategy.

Hardwick originally put together the $27 million portfolio for Abacus and initiated a management buyout, which was completed on 23 December 2010.

Wolseley Private Equity came on board as a new partner and provided capital to buy out Abacus and funds for acquisitions.

"The end result is that I now have a great new partner with plenty of equity to support us, a new bank facility with fantastic terms and a market full of wonderful buying opportunities," Hardwick said.

"I feel a bit like a kid in the candy store."

Hardwick resigned from Abacus in August last year and his responsibilities were taken up by Abacus head of strategy Cate Aarons.
