The industry fund has added an analyst to its fixed income team.

AustralianSuper has appointed John Hopper to its fixed income team.

Hopper previously worked at Portfolio Partners, now known as Aviva Investors, for 20 years and was involved in the firm's credit strategies.

"Credit is an important asset class. We wanted to deepen our expertise in fixed income and thought it was important to add a specialist to the team," AustralianSuper chief executive Mark Delaney said.

The fund is currently looking at distressed debt opportunities, however there are no plans to make any specific investments.

"We are just looking at the sector at the moment, given that there are some opportunities out there," Delaney said.

AustralianSuper has about 20 people in its investment team, with half involved in investment management and the other half working in the operational side.
