Former AMP Capital Investors chief investment officer Merv Peacock has joined boutique private equity firm Barwon Investment Partners as head of its investment advisory committee.

Former AMP Capital Investors chief investment officer Merv Peacock has joined boutique private equity firm Barwon Investment Partners as head of its investment advisory committee.

Peacock left AMP in late 2005 after more than 40 years of service. He joined the firm in 1964 aged just 17.

"I am delighted to be joining Barwon Investment Partners in this advisory capacity, especially at a time in the Australian market when the alternative investment opportunities are so strong," he said.

His appointment follows Barwon's hiring of Peter Conners earlier this year from Patersons Securities.

Conners was made partner responsible for direct and co-investment execution.

Barwon was founded in November 2006 by former Macquarie Funds Management head of alternative investments Sam Armstrong, who went on to found private equity shop Quay Partners, and former AMP Capital head of property Rob Morrison.

Andrew Green joined Barwon from the Australian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association as a partner in December 2006.
