Schroders snaps up CSAM chief

Former Credit Suisse Asset Management equities boss Andrew Fleming has thrown in his lot with Schroder Investment Management.

Former Credit Suisse Asset Management (CSAM) Australian equities chief Andrew Fleming has been snapped up by Schroder Investment Management (Schroders).

He will join the firm's Sydney office as a senior portfolio manager in the Australian equities team, having spent the last four years at CSAM.

"This is a good move from Andrew. Schroders' has a great team and the head of Australian equities Martin Conlon is one of the best," Morningstar analyst Tim Murphy said.

He added that Fleming's track record at CSAM meant he was a good hire for Schroders.

"The small caps team went gangbusters under Fleming and during his two years in charge of large caps they have done reasonably well," Murphy said.

Fleming's appointment comes after what has been a prolonged period of musical chairs in the asset management industry.

CSAM's co-heads of small caps, Stephen Atkinson and Matthew Booker, went their separate ways in March.

Atkinson joined fund manager MMC Asset Management and Booker joined boutique small caps shop Paradice Investment Management.

CSAM has since poached ING Investment Management's team.

It announced earlier this month that Issam Eid, Steven Ng and Rajeev de Silva, all from INGIM's Australian small caps team, were joining the firm.

At Schroders Fleming will join Conlon and senior portfolio manager Randal Jenneke on the senior management team responsible for portfolio construction.

"Schroders Australian Equities team is a stable and experienced team. Their focus on investing in quality growth companies suits my philosophy of long term investing," Fleming said.
