AMP has boosted its Asia Pacific equities capability with the hire of an old hand.

AMP Capital Investors yesterday named Kerry Series as the group's new head of Asia Pacific equities.

Series, who will report to chief investment officer Mark O'Brien, will manage three AMP Capital equities teams, including Asian equities.

Series was previously investment director Asian equities at HSBC Asset Management in Hong Kong.

Prior to this role, he was a co-founder of Perennial Investment Partners, where he was co-head of international equities responsible for Asian equities.

"Appointing Kerry in the new role of head of Asia Pacific equities reflects our commitment to delivering our strategy of becoming a high value-add Asia Pacific investment manager," O'Brien said.

In 2007 AMP officially opened its regional head office in Singapore and operations in Beijing and Tokyo.

The group also expanded its capabilities in Mumbai and London and now employs 32 investment staff outside Australia.

"AMP Capital has the resources required to capitalise on the high-value add opportunities in Asian equities and a clearly articulated vision to be a major player in the region," Series said.

AMP Capital Investors has $111 billion assets under management.
