MFS Alternative Investments strategy remains unchanged as CIO leaves.

MFS Alternative Investments chief investments officer Richard Keary is leaving after eight months in the role.

Along with chief executive Richard Loury, Keary was responsible for building the group's interest in the domestic hedge funds industry, building its product suite and increasing funds under management.

Keary, who won the award for the best individual contribution to the Australian hedge fund industry at the 2006 Hedge Fund Awards, was previously head of alternative investments at soon to be floated BT.

MFS' strategy is to obtain significant but minority equity positions in alternative investment managers.

"The strategy of MFS remains unchanged," Loury said.

"Given the turmoil of international markets it's now a good opportunity to be expanding the business, with valuations now looking to be more realistic than they were six months ago."

Investee companies are currently Vantage Asset Management, Vantage Private Equity Growth Limited and Fortitude Capital.
