Draws on former financial advice experience

Australian Unity Investments (AUI) has recruited former HSBC associate director Shaun Thomas as its new business development manager for operations in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

Mr Thomas has a range of business and client development experience in the financial services sector. As well as his role handling key accounts and research relationships at HSBC Global Asset Management, he has also completed stints in the business development departments of Macquarie Funds Group, St George Margin Lending and Commsec.

Previously, he was also a financial adviser at Australian Financial Services, having completed his financial planning qualifications at the Investment Banking Institute. He completed further studies in finance at the University of Western Sydney and the Securities Institute of Australia (now FINSIA).

"AUI continues to grow within the NSW and ACT region and Shaun has the experience and the skills to further enhance our distribution capabilities and reach," said AUI national manager for adviser distribution, Michelle Hanger.

"We are particularly pleased to have recruited someone of his calibre and background to the role," Ms Hanger said, adding that Mr Thomas' understanding of the financial advice industry will be invaluable.
