New director appointed

The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) has welcomed the appointment of a new director to its board and the re-election of its chair.

The board changes, announced today following the ASFA AGM, include the addition of David Elia, chief executive officer of HOSTPLUS Superannuation Fund, to represent industry funds.

ASFA chief executive officer Pauline Vamos said the association was happy to have someone of David's calibre join the ASFA board and that she is "confident our members will feel the same".

Sunsuper chief executive officer Tony Lally was also re-elected chair of the board during the AGM, continuing his tenure for a fourth year.

"I'd like to congratulate Tony on behalf of all ASFA members on his reappointment as chair," said Ms Vamos.

"This really is strong affirmation of the excellent job Tony has done in leading ASFA through what has been an extremely challenging time for the industry.

"ASFA would also like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks to David Atkin of Cbus who retired from the board today. David's contribution over the past few years has been invaluable and the board has greatly benefited from his leadership and experience - particularly during this historic time of reform."
