BNP Paribas IP appoints head of super

BNP Paribas IP has appointed Angus Carson as head of superannuation and government institutions.

BNP Paribas Investment Partners (BNP IP) has hired Angus Carson as head of superannuation and government institutions.

Carson joins from Ambassador Funds Management, where he was an institutional sales associate director, representing investment managers Fulcrum Asset Management, Copper Rock Capital, Cohen & Steers and Charlemagne Capital.

He has also worked at Macquarie Professional Services, Merrill Lynch, Intech Investment Consulting and Deutsche Asset Management.

His focus will be on business development and client relationships covering BNP Paribas IP's investment managers, including Arnhem Investment Management, Antin Infrastructure Partners, Fauchier Partners, Fischer Francis Trees & Watts, Hamilton Lane, Impax Asset Management, and the company's internal investment business, BNP Paribas Asset Management.

 
 

He will be based in the company's Sydney office from 27 August.

His appointment is a significant win for the company, after its former co-head of institutional business development, Marian Poirier, left the firm in June.

Poirier left for MFS Investment Management, after the Massachusetts-based firm decided to end its distribution arrangement with BNP IP as it had grown to sufficient size to establish its own representation in Australia.

BNP IP also announced yesterday the appointment of Stephen Copeland as client services and operations manager.

Copeland joined from MLC Private Equity, where he was a senior analyst.

He has also worked in Ireland as a fund accountant with Northern Trust Investor Services and as a senior accountant with Kenny, Whelan & Company Chartered Accountants.

"We look forward to Angus and Stephen joining us and bringing their mix of experience to our team," BNP IP chief executive David Grybas said.

"With our revitalised team and approach, we will continue to leverage our far-reaching and diverse investment partner network to provide a full range of investment solutions to our clients."
