Former Pillar chief rejoins administrator

Pillar has appointed Peter Cormack as business strategy general manager.

Former Pillar Administration chief executive Peter Cormack has returned to the company to develop business strategies and manage business transitions.

Pillar has appointed Cormack as business strategy general manager.

"Peter brings a wealth of experience to the organisation and his role will include a number of specific responsibilities relating to transitions, as well as broader organisational responsibilities, including marketing and business development activities," Pillar chief executive Peter Beck said.

"Peter's knowledge of Pillar and our clients, and his extensive knowledge of the industry will be invaluable in achieving immediate results in this position."

Cormack joins the superannuation administrator from ComSuper, where he was chief executive from 2010 until April 2012.

ComSuper is a government agency responsible for the administration of Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation (CSC) funds, including the CSS, PSS, MilitarySuper and other schemes for the Australian public service.

The organisation underwent significant change during Cormack's tenure and his role shifted as a result.

Last year, the Senate passed legislation that meant the Defence Force Retirement & Death Benefits (DFRDB) Scheme Authority ceased to exist and the ARIA and Military Trustee boards were consolidated into the CSC in July 2011.

At this time, ComSuper was re-established as a statutory agency under the Public Service Act 1999 and the roles of commissioner for superannuation and chair of the DFRDB Authority, which were both held by Cormack, ceased to exist.

In February this year, ComSuper also outsourced the administration of the Public Service Sector Accumulation Plan (PSSAP) to Pillar.

However, Beck said the appointment of Cormack was not related to the outsourcing deal.

"We cannot comment on why Peter Cormack left ComSuper, this is a matter for them," he said.

"What we can say is that Peter's appointment at Pillar has nothing whatsoever to do with the outsourcing of PSSAP to Pillar by ComSuper and everything to do with what he can contribute to Pillar going forward," he said.

"From a Pillar perspective, Peter brings a wealth of experience and industry knowledge to the organisation and we are delighted that he has accepted the position of general manager business strategy."

"His role will include a number of specific responsibilities relating to transitions, as well as broader organisational responsibilities, including marketing and business development activities," Beck said.
