AustralianSuper has beefed up its venture capital expertise.

The nation's biggest industry superannuation fund, AustralianSuper, has appointed Alistair McCreadie as venture capital investment manager.

McCreadie is best known for his role as senior asset consultant for JANA Investment Advisers between 2004 and 2008.

He left JANA to set up a venture capital fund, Red Fire Venture Capital Partnership, targeting start-up businesses.

Red Fire grew to around $100 million in funds under management.

McCreadie is also a director of the not-for-profit Australian Institute for Innovation.

AustralianSuper accumulated a significant number of venture capital assets when it took over Westscheme in 2011.
