Mortgage insurance provider Genworth Australia appoints new chief executive.

Genworth Australia has appointed Ellie Comerford as president and chief executive.

Comerford will join from First American Financial Corporation, a global specialty insurance company, where she currently is chief operating officer for the international division.

She has also held the role of managing director of First American's Australian and New Zealand operations for six years.

"Ellie brings tremendous experience across a range of areas including insurance risk, lending and mortgage origination activities, client relationship management, structured finance and capital markets," US parent company Genworth Financial chairman and chief executive Michael Fraizer said.

"Her expertise will prove invaluable as we continue to build and strengthen our customer partnerships and position Genworth for future growth," Fraizer said.

Comerford will start with Genworth Australia in December this year. Until then, Paul Caputo will continue as acting president and chief executive for Genworth Australia.

Caputo, who was previously the company's chief risk officer, has been promoted to the expanded role of chief risk officer and senior vice president, capital markets.

He has also been appointed as an officer of Genworth Financial.
