MLC hires Alliance Bernstein property CIO

MLC has created a new role dedicated to the management of its property and unlisted assets portfolios.

MLC has created a new role for property and unlisted assets portfolio manager, and appointed former Alliance Bernstein staffer Stuart Keighran into the role.

Keighran, who will be based in MLC's North Sydney office, will be responsible for selecting the underlying managers for MLC's property and unlisted asset multi-manager strategies.

Keighran previously worked as Bernstein Value Equities chief investment officer (CIO) Australian listed property and Asia Pacific regional research coordinator for the firm's real estate equities strategies.

He left the investment manager in June this year after Bernstein consolidated its Australian real estate property securities team with its Australian equities value team and scrapped the role of listed property CIO.

"MLC continues to enhance its multi-manager investments capability and strengthen its research team as part of the focus on expanding our asset management business," MLC acting chief investment officer Susan Gosling said.

"The creation of this portfolio manager role provides MLC Investment Management with a dedicated portfolio manager for property investments," she said.

Property and unlisted assets were previously part of the global equities portfolios managed by MLC global shares senior analyst Myooran Mahalingam.

Mahalingam will now focus solely on global equities.
