AMP Capital has found a replacement ESG research analyst.

AMP Capital Investors has appointed Mans Carlsson-Sweeny as the environmental, social and governance (ESG) research analyst for the Sustainable Alpha Australian Equities team.

Carlsson-Sweeny, who will start in September 2010, replaces Nick Edgerton, who left the company in April this year and moved to Colonial First State Global Asset Management where he was appointed manager of ESG research and engagement.

He will be responsible for the analysis of ESG issues and sustainability drivers for a number of sectors, as well as regularly engaging with companies on ESG issues.

"Mans brings with him both financial and ESG research experience, which complements the team's strong sustainable investment expertise," AMP Capital Investors senior ESG research analyst Ian Woods said.

"ESG research provides the investment team with timely and unique in-house insights, which allow us to deliver our clients competitive performance and returns," he said.

Carlsson-Sweeny comes from advisory firm Arbor Partners, where he provided advice to institutional investors on long-term investments with an emphasis on sustainability.

He also worked for three years in ESG research with Scandinavian investment bank Carnegie Investment Bank. He also has investment and business analysis experience with Macquarie Bank and Accenture in the United Kingdom, and has held the role of equity research analyst at IS Intersecurities in Frankfurt.

Carlsson-Sweeny will report to AMP Capital head of the Sustainable Alpha Australian Equities team Michael Anderson.

Standard & Poor's put the AMP Capital Sustainable Alpha Fund on hold in April after the departure of Edgerton.

The fund will remain on hold until the research houses have had the opportunity to meet the expanded team.

The appointment of Carlsson-Sweeny comes after AMP Capital made two new hires in the Sustainable Alpha team in May, when it appointed Carlos Castillo as portfolio manager and Rahul Badethalav as portfolio analyst.

The new hire brings the total number of staff in the team to eight.
