Prominent economist to advise Wingate Asset Management.

Former ANZ economist Saul Eslake has been appointed to the investment advisory committee of Melburnian fund manager Wingate Asset Management.

Eslake is the first external member of the committee and will provide global economic views and insights into developing macro trends.

"Saul's perspectives and experience will be of considerable value in further enhancing Wingate's investment activities and decision making," Wingate Asset Management chief investment officer Chad Padowitz said.

"His experience as one of Australia's leading economists, combined with his extensive knowledge of international economic developments, makes him an invaluable addition to the committee," Padowitz said.

Eslake, who left ANZ in August last year after 14 years with the bank, is currently program director with public policy think tank the Grattan Institute.

He is also a member of three federal government advisory panels: the World Trade Organisation Advisory Group, the Trade Policy Advisory Council and the Foreign Affairs Council.

Wingate's advisory committee also includes Padowitz, Wingate portfolio manager Joel Beebe, founder and managing director of the Wingate Group Farrel Meltzer and head of Australian Unity Investments David Bryant.

Wingate Asset Management is a joint venture between Australian Unity Investments and the Wingate Group.

The firm's flagship fund is the AUI Wingate Global Equity Income Fund.
