Sunsuper eyes online advice

In a bid to deliver a cost effective scalable service, the industry fund is looking to expand its retirement planning program online.

Sunsuper has plans to take its advice program, On Track, online in a bid to deliver a cost effective, scalable service to its one million members.

"We are looking at managing our advice service in a cost effective way. Moving the service online will help us achieve a scalable service," Sunsuper general manager of member and employer service delivery Steven Travis said.

The On Track program was launched in August last year to provide retirement planning for Sunsuper's members. Under the service, members have access to a financial plan that includes a service from an adviser followed up by regular check ups.

About 1500 members have accessed the service.

"We used to do 15 to 20 financial plans a month. Now we are doing around 150 plans a month. It is a very scalable program," Travis said.

"We are assessing whether to build a self-help component within the program through an online service which would support our over-the-phone advice service.

"By offering a combination of telephone, online and face-to-face advice services we can build all the channels together."

A team of 20 financial planners supports the program. The superannuation fund hired about seven planners over the last 12 months.

In March 2010, Sunsuper established a member and employer services division as part of its strategy to boost its financial advice business.

Travis who helped develop the On Track program now heads that division.
