The global custodian has appointed a new head for its Australian and New Zealand businesses.

BNP Paribas has hired Pierre Jond to lead the firm's Australia and New Zealand businesses.

Jond is also global head of sales and relationship for the firm's financial intermediaries.

Current chief Jean-Marc Pasquet will return to Paris to take up the job as head of BNP Paribas Securities Services for the company's French location. He will remain as head of the firm's Asia Pacific businesses.

Pasquet has led the local operations since June 2006.

Jond has worked in the custody industry for 20 years. He has taken on a number of global roles within BNP Paribas Securities Services. Most recently he worked as head of global sales and relationship management. He was also head of strategic development.

"Pierre's global skill and experience will greatly benefit the local operations in Australia and New Zealand," Pasquet said.

"Locally, the business is on track with its strategy to grow and expand supported by a strong and stable team," he said.

In April, the firm announced that it would expand its custody business across Asia.

"It has always been part of BNP Paribas Securities Services' strategic development to deploy our global custody platform throughout Asia," Pasquet said at the time.
