The creation of a marketing and communications manager role at Legalsuper is the first step towards a more formal strategy.

Industry superannuation fund Legalsuper has made moves to formalise its marketing strategy.

"We are reviewing our website and in our mid-year newsletter we are going to focus on risk management and have an online risk calculator," Legalsuper chief executive Andrew Proebstl said.

As part of the strategy Legalsuper have created a marketing and communications manager position, with financial services specialist Kim Sargent taking on the role.

Sargent, who previously worked as head of brand engagement at Australian Unity, was marketing and communications manager at HESTA Super Fund and was the communications manager at CPA Australia, will report directly to Proebstl.

This is the first time Legalsuper have had a marketing specialist and the appointment is part of a wider strategy to broaden the fund's communications capability, according to Proebstl.

Sargent said she will be working on formalising the Legalsuper marketing and communications strategy.

"We are doing some things with segmentation and focusing on statements and communications for our high net worth members," she said.

Meanwhile, Legalsuper has also added Geoff Hone as a new director. He replaces Rod Smith, who was appointed full-time deputy chairperson of the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal in October last year.

Hone is a long-term partner at Blake Dawson, having started with them in 1967, and was a director of the Blake Dawson Partner's Superannuation Fund before it was merged with Legalsuper.

He was a nominee of the Law Institute of Victoria.

"We are really pleased to welcome Geoff to the board and were pleased to have someone from the board of one our merged firms," Proebstl said.

Legalsuper's board currently has ten directors.
