Industry Funds Forum's SuperFriend mental health initiative has made it easier for participating super funds to communicate the message to members.

Industry Funds Forum mental health initiative SuperFriend is celebrating its third birthday with the launch of a new web portal that makes it easier for participating funds to access up-to-date information.

The SF Central portal contains information to educate members, employers and staff about mental health and wellbeing issues.

"It is aimed specifically at the marketing and communication staff within the participating super funds and insurers. The idea behind it is that it stores up-to-date information and images and everything that the funds need as a ready resource for them to communicate mental health and wellbeing issues to their members," SuperFriend program manager Antonella Hellier said.

SuperFriend launched the portal in response to demand from superannuation funds.

"Before we were trying to deal with each fund and respond to their interests and needs. But it became steadily harder to keep track of that and it was great to develop something that was a bit more convenient for them as well," Hellier said.

Meanwhile, Maritime Super is the latest fund to join SuperFriend as a participating fund, supported by its life insurer, AIA.

"Maritime Super is the largest super fund of its kind for maritime workers, encompassing a large representation of male members," SuperFriend said in a statement.

"We look forward to working with Maritime Super on mental health and wellbeing initiatives, and welcome them to the program."

The fund joins a list of participating members that includes REST, Cbus, Asset Super and Sunsuper.
