Gerard Noonan replaces Sandy Grant as the chair of the AIST Policy Committee.

The Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST) has appointed media industry identity Gerard Noonan as the new chair of the AIST Policy Committee.

Currently the chair of industry superannuation fund Media Super, Noonan is a former editor of The Australian Financial Review and a recent recipient of a Walkley Award for outstanding contribution to journalism.

He also oversaw the 2008 merger of Just Super and Print Super to form the $2.2 billion Media Super.

AIST chief executive Fiona Reynolds said with his background in financial services and media experience, Noonan would provide valuable input into AIST's policy and research work.

"Gerard brings a unique set of skills and experience to AIST that will no doubt prove to be of great value to AIST's research and policy team, particularly at this time of intense examination of the superannuation sector through the Cooper and Henry reviews," Reynolds said.

Noonan replaces Sandy Grant, who was recently appointed to the panel of the Cooper review into superannuation.
