The Commonwealth Bank has appointed a new group executive to oversee its business and private banking function.

CBA general manager of local business banking Adam Bennett has been promoted to the role and will start on 12 January 2015 following the retirement of Grahame Petersen.

CBA said Mr Bennett has held a number of positions with the bank, having joined the bank’s group technology unit in 2004 and then working as chief information officer for the retail banking and business banking divisions.

“He [then] joined the business and private banking leadership team in 2009 and became the executive general manager of the local business banking [division] in 2012,” a statement from CBA said.

“Prior to joining the Commonwealth Bank, he was principal at strategic consulting practice A.T. Kearney, working across industries in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and Europe,” the CBA said.

CBA chief executive Ian Narev pointed out Mr Petersen's “significant contribution” to the bank during his 35-year career and in the 10 years on the group’s executive committee.

“His legacy is an ongoing drive to improve customer focus and culture. Under his leadership the business and private bank has continued to grow and improve customer satisfaction levels,” Mr Narev said.

“[Mr Bennett] will build upon this momentum by increasing the rate of delivering innovative customer solutions, made possible by the group’s continuing investment in technology,” he said.

Mr Petersen will remain on some group subsidiary boards following his retirement.
