A former Credit Suisse AG senior executive has joined ANZ’s Indian operations as chief executive.

The banking group has recruited Sanjeev Bajaj from Credit Suisse, where he was chief executive of the Mumbai branch and managing director and head of fixed income for India.

Mr Bajaj also previously held senior roles with Bank of America in India.

“Sanjeev’s deep banking experience in India and his reputation for building high-performing teams will be of significant benefit as we continue the expansion of our business with the addition of new branches in Gurgaon and outer Bengaluru,” said ANZ chief executive, international and institutional banking Andrew Geczy.

ANZ chief executive, international banking, Farhan Faruqui said Mr Bajaj joins the Australasian group at an important time in its Asian growth strategy.

The outgoing CEO, Subhas DeGamia, has been appointed executive director super regional business development, international banking. He will be based in Sydney.

“As one of our most experienced international bankers, Subhas has been instrumental in building our strong franchise in India and we’re fortunate that in this new role he will continue to help our customers at a time when Australia and India look to finalise a free trade agreement,” he said.
