Global consultant Towers Watson has made five new appointments in its Australian investment team, hiring two investment consultants and three investment analysts.

Craig Mercer has been appointed as a specialist senior hedge fund and alternatives consultant.

He joins from his most recent role as head of the London office of Dalton Investments LLC and chairman of the risk committee.

Mr Mercer previously worked at Towers Watson for seven years as a senior manager research professional, both in London and Hong Kong.

Sean O’Shea has also joined the Sydney team as an investment consultant.

Mr O’Shea previously held senior roles at Challenger Financial Services, Apostle Asset Management and Royal Bank of Scotland.

Sean Hollins and Bhushan Chiniah are joining the Melbourne team as investments analysts and Chris Tran has joined the Sydney client consulting team, also as an investment analyst.

Graeme Miller, director of investment services for Towers Watson in Australia, said the team was now larger and better resourced than it has ever been and that the company will continue to increase its depth and breadth as the business grows.

However, the growth of Towers Watson’s investment business has not been limited to Australia. These appointments follow three other recent senior investment professional appointments in the North American investment services team, including George Caffrey, Elise Klarfeld and Chris Thompson.
