A new AMP program will complement the current Horizons model to provide a more flexible entry point into the industry.

The AMP Horizons Academy will launch a new program for professional career changers, which will allow for a more flexible entry into the financial planning industry.

"The initiative we are working on is a new program that will provide flexibility for anyone wanting to join the profession," AMP Horizons Academy director Tim Steele told InvestorDaily.

The new initiative will sit alongside Horizons and will be launched in the fourth quarter of the year.

"It'll provide a more flexible entry point into the industry for those who require it and while it's not limited to women, we believe it'll be very attractive and appealing to women," Steele said.

"In addition, it will fundamentally build greater awareness on financial planning, helping women understand the difference they can make to people's lives and [provide] an opportunity to leverage their professional experience."

The Horizons program itself would continue to be improved and refined and although no structural or strategic changes had been made to the model, incremental improvements were based on feedback and insights, he said.

"One of the improvements we've made is that we're far more overt today about what that development journey and career path looks like," he said.

"It's not that we hid anything, but now we're able to be really clear with them as to what the opportunities and challenges look like."

Horizons is up to its 18th intake since its inception in 2007, with a total of 455 planners completing the program.
