Life insurance veteran Greg Della will return to Zurich after exiting CommInsure.

CommInsure chief financial officer and chief life actuary Greg Della has departed the group to join rival Zurich Australia.

Zurich Australia life and investments chief executive Colin Morgan told InvestorDaily Della would return to Zurich in the role of chief life actuary for Zurich's life and investments business. He will start with the firm in May.

Della's appointment followed the internal promotion of current chief life actuary Mark Henderson to Zurich's Hong Kong operations, Morgan said.

"We promoted him up to a regional role across multiple countries, so that created an opportunity at a local level here in Australia to appoint a new chief life actuary," he said.

"We've managed to get Greg to come back and join us."

In his new position, Della will become a member of the Zurich executive team reporting to Morgan.

"As the appointed chief life actuary he has all the statutory obligations to effectively run the life company in terms of its risk rating and capital and everything that is associated with a life company. It's one of the key roles for any life insurance company," he said.

"Greg's going to be a big part of continuing to grow our presence in the retail IFA [independent financial advice] market."

Della returns to Zurich after more than a year with CommInsure.

Prior to his time with CommInsure, Della held positions within Zurich for more than two decades.
