Successfully undergoing a career change into financial planning has been helped by MLC.

Wealth manager MLC has launched a program to assist people in making a career change over to financial planning.

The program is called MLC Pathway to Advice Excellence and is aimed at those individuals who are in the process of acquiring their RG146 qualification with a specific view to working in the financial planning sector.

During the four day course students are given access to experienced advisers in order to find out the processes involved to become a successful financial planner.

At the same time program participants will be taught how to engage with clients and influence outcomes, as well as how to develop and implement financial strategies using a six step financial planning process.

"For a number of years we have been running the MLC Advice Business School, which teaches existing planners how to start up their own business. However we were increasingly being approached by professionals seeking a program teaching them how to start out as a financial planner," MLC general manager of business development Peter Greenaway said.

"The planned introduction of a fiduciary duty and the removal of commissions are acting as a catalyst to attract new talent to our industry. As public perception of financial planning improves more people are considering joining our industry.

"We are increasingly receiving enquiries from the likes of lawyers, bankers and asset managers who are seeking a career change and want to become trusted financial advisers. This program has been designed with these people in mind."

While a securing job with MLC is not one of the specific outcomes incorporated in the Pathway to Advice Excellence course it is a possibility, according to Greenaway.
