Executive appointments and departures

Following a three-year tenure, Jo-Anne Bloch resigned as FPA chief executive in February to head Mercer's financial planning arm.

In March, Macquarie lured US-based Eric Schimpf, a former key banker at Merrill Lynch, to lead its 425 private wealth advisers as head of Macquarie Private Wealth.

That month also saw Hillross Financial Services managing director John McMurdo leave the AMP business to become chief executive of financial advisory firm Centric Wealth.

In April, Geoff Lloyd resigned as BT Financial Group's (BTFG) general manager for advice and private banking, while BTFG's Wayne Wilson departed his post as head of Asgard in May.

Meanwhile, May also saw the FPA name the former head of MLC's Godfrey Pembroke, Mark Rantall, as its new chief executive.

In June, Professional Investment Services (PIS) appointed former Bartercard Australia chief executive David Johnstone as its new chief executive, as former PIS chief Robbie Bennetts moved to head up Professional Investment Holdings.

In July, former Astarra Asset Management executive Peter Wood assumed control of dealer group Wright Global Investments, forcing the resignation of its chief executive, Mark Schroeder, at the request of the company's shareholder, Astral Investments.

In August, boutique fund manager 452 Capital announced its chief executive Lyndsey Hancock and investment directors Mary Feros and Suellen Morgan all planned to step away from managing the firm.

In September, BTFG found a replacement for Wilson, appointing Craig Lawrenson to lead its Asgard unit. The firm also hired Matt Englund as its new head of dealer groups, following the resignation of Neil Younger, who left the company to become a general manager for Commonwealth Financial Planning.

Meanwhile, Count Financial decided to terminate its 20-year relationship with research house van Eyk in October, appointing rival Lonsec as its new research provider for unlisted investments.
