Sara Higgins has joined PIMCO Australia's institutional team.

Fund manager PIMCO Australia has appointed Sara Higgins as an account manager within the institutional team.

Higgins has seven years of investment and financial services experience in areas including adviser distribution, private wealth, investment banking and strategy.

Her most recent position was at Perpetual Investments within the private wealth division, where she provided specialist counsel to high net wealth philanthropic clients on structures, legislation and non-profit sector trends.

"Her appointment signals our enhanced commitment to the Australian superannuation market and to sustaining our position as a manager of choice for super funds and other investors," PIMCO Australia head John Wilson said.

"Sara has joined us at a critical juncture in the development of the Australian superannuation industry.

"More and more, our institutional super fund clients are focused on measures to retain retiree members in the fund and, as part of this, they are looking to develop competitive retirement income solutions."

Wilson said PIMCO was looking to help superannuation funds meet the challenge by hosting a series of retirement income forums to discuss how innovative retirement solutions might be developed.

PIMCO globally has around $1.3 trillion in assets under management.
