Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has launched Capital Series Trio, a new capital-protected investment that offers investors a choice of three investment themes - Australian equities, Asian equities and gold.

Each strategy offers a five-and-a-half-year investment term and different risk/return profiles.

Strategy one is indexed to the S&P/ASX 200 and
gives investors 100 per cent capital protection at maturity, with up to 70 per cent potential for capital growth over the term.

There is also potential for annual coupons of 5 per cent if the index reaches a growth rate of 10 per cent a year.

Strategy two is like strategy one but is indexed to gold and offers the potential for yearly coupons of 3 per cent if the precious metal's performance reaches a growth rate of 10 per cent a year.

Strategy three is indexed to Asian share markets, including the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index, Taiwan's Taiex and Korea's KOSPI 200. It also gives investors 80 per cent capital protection at maturity.

"Capital Series Trio is a unique offering in the fact that investors can access international markets and different asset classes which traditionally have not been easy to access for retail investors," CBA head of structured products Suzanne Salter said.

"If an investor believes that markets have hit the bottom or are bottoming out, then this investment will allow them to benefit from this growth over the next five-and-a half years."

Capital Series Trio is open until 23 October and is available to self-managed superannuation funds, individual investors, companies and trusts.

CBA also offers a lending package for individuals.
