Futuro add compliance expert to bolster management.

Independent dealer group Futuro Financial Services has strengthened its senior management team, appointing compliance expert James Shearing to the new position of national manager, legal and compliance.

Shearing brings more than a decade of legal and financial planning experience to the role, having most recently worked at ClearView Wealth Management - formerly ComCorp Financial Advice. Prior to that he was a paraplanner at Quadrant Securities. He has also worked at a number of law firms in legal roles during the early 2000s.

Futuro's managing director Dennis Bashford said Shearing's appointment will allow the dealer group to maximise the opportunities arising as the financial services industry adapts to wide-ranging regulatory changes.

"This move frees up our other senior executives, particularly Paul Kelly - director of network services - and myself, to focus on the opportunities that we see emerging under the new financial planning regime," he said.

"Our business emerged from the global financial crisis in great health, thanks in part to the compliance culture we have. That included the appointment, some eight years ago, of former regional ASIC commissioner Barrie Adams as chairman of our compliance committee.

"James' appointment will ensure that we continue to uphold our high standards, while enabling Futuro also to concentrate on developing some important strategic initiatives."
