Heather Ridout takes over from Elana Rubin

AustralianSuper has announced the appointment of Heather Ridout as chair, replacing Elana Rubin.

Ms Ridout will assume the role in May, with Ms Rubin to retire as chair and director, the fund said in a statement. Ms Rubin said she is "delighted" with her successor.

"I know she will do a great job in ensuring the continued success of AustralianSuper as it strives for the best for its members," she said.

Ms Rubin became chair of the fund in 2007 and a director in 2006. AustralianSuper director and secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, Dave Oliver, said Ms Rubin has been "extremely influential".

"Much of AustralianSuper's success has been due to her vision, her remarkable capacity and her desire to ensure the fund worked as hard as it could for the benefit of members," he said.

Ms Ridout has been a director of AustralianSuper since 2007 and is currently a director of Sims Metal Management. She is also a board member of the Reserve Bank of Australia.
