Stephen Hayes has returned to CFSGAM to take over from Andrew Nicholas as head of property securities.

Colonial First State Global Asset Management (CFSGAM) has appointed Stephen Hayes as head of property securities.

Hayes has taken over the role from Andrew Nicholas who has resigned from CFSGAM to "pursue new opportunities".

"Stephen is a disciplined investor with an established investment process and a proven long-term performance track record and re-joins us with a shared goal of establishing CFSGAM as a global leader in real estate securities," CFSGAM chief investment officer David Dixon said.

"We will continue to have team members based in Sydney, New York, London and Hong Kong; we believe that a global approach - employing specialist property investors in each region - is the most effective way to manage global property securities portfolios and deliver superior investment returns for our investors," he said.

Hayes originally joined CFSGAM in 1999 and was responsible for establishing and building the global property securities business.

He and his team left in 2006 to establish Perennial Real Estate Investments, a joint venture with Perennial Investment Partners.

Hayes left Perennial in February this year and will start in his role at CFSGAM on 10th September 2012.

In November last year, CFSGAM already appointed a new managing director to the company's property division.

Angus McNaughton replaced former CFSGAM property managing director Darren Steinberg, who resigned at the time.
