SPAA has announced the winners of its 2011 SMSF national awards.

Perth-based self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) adviser Cindy McDonald has taken out the Self-Managed Super Fund Professionals' Association of Australia's (SPAA) award for best practice.

SPAA announced the winners of its 2011 SPAA SMSF National Awards yesterday as part of its annual national conference in Sydney this week.

McDonald, an SMSF adviser leading her own practice, Superexpertise, was awarded the top honour for her contribution to the SMSF industry.

"This is really a surprise and an honour to receive such an accolade from the peak association for SMSFs. The sector as a whole continues to grow dramatically and advisers are becoming increasingly aware of the important role we have to play in helping secure the retirement futures of self-managed super investors," she said.

Fellow industry participant Cameron Reed won the chairman's award for his outstanding contribution to SPAA and the SMSF sector in 2011.

Kylie Wilson received the chief executive scholarship, a special award to help an SMSF professional who wants to undertake postgraduate education related to the SMSF industry.

Terri Scott and Kevin McFadden received the SPAA specialist auditor and adviser awards respectively.

"We recognise the hard work of these professionals and their efforts towards advancing knowledge and best practice," SPAA chief executive Andrea Slattery said at the ceremony.

"It is inspiring to see such dedication by SMSF professionals and it is their expertise which will help us continue to best service this growing and important industry."
