Strong economy boosts investor interest from overseas

Middle Eastern interest in Australian investments is growing as a result of the strong domestic economy, according to Amanie Advisors Australia.

The Shariah advisory firm said that with increasing volatility overseas, Middle Eastern investors are finding Australia to be an increasingly attractive and lucrative investment destination.

"I think many of the Gulf investors, they see a fair bit of volatility in Europe and I think they still lack confidence in what's happened in the United States," Amanie Advisors Australia's head, Mark Darras, told InvestorDaily.

"While there are still some challenges in Australia, we are still performing much better than anywhere they've invested in recent times - investors see a standout economy."

Amanie is hosting the Islamic Finance Forum on April 16 to give Australian companies the opportunity to tap into capital from the Middle East and other Islamic countries.

The conference will feature keynote addresses from Minister for Financial Services and Superannuation Bill Shorten; Amanie group chairman Dr Mohd Daud Bakar; and other Islamic finance industry leaders.

Mr Darras said the forum is the result of interest from Middle Eastern investors in the Australian investment market.

"I spoke at a forum in Muscat in early November and I was swamped with queries [about] investment in Australia," Mr Darras said.

"We're leveraging off that conference so investment bankers are now coming to Australia wanting to explore investments here."

"It certainly opens the door and the federal government have been very supportive of overseas investments in Australia in terms of access to capital - so it all bodes well."
