Auscoal has launched an online education and telephone advice service for its members.

Industry fund Auscoal Super has launched an online education portal for its members.

Its new education service is expected to complement the fund's existing financial advice service and its soon-to-be released telephone advice service.

Together, the fund's information, education and advice services will be known as the Financial Fitness Program.

"Auscoal has always tried to be proactive," Auscoal chief executive Bruce Watson said.

Historically, the superannuation fund has used its strong face-to-face relationships with its members for education, as well as workbooks, online fact sheets, calculators and modelling tools.

It established Auscoal Advisory Services in 2004 to provide members with a range of services, including intra-fund advice.

However, Watson said the fund recognised younger members liked to use online tools. Furthermore, instant access to information and advice is crucial for such a diverse and regional member base.

Financial education provider innergi has provided the portal to Auscoal Super.

Only a few content changes were made to the education modules, which are designed to be worked through at a member's own pace.

The education portal will have no cost to members and will be funded by the efficiency savings made from a recently introduced in-house administration system.
