The Commonwealth Bank has named a former Suncorp executive as its new group general counsel.

Anna Lenahan has been appointed group general counsel of the Commonwealth Bank, filling the vacancy created by David Cohen who became the bank's chief risk officer in February 2016.

Ms Lenahan will commence her new role in late 2016, having been at Suncorp for five years.

Previously, she was a partner with law firm Allens Arthur Robinson (now Allens Linklaters) and has worked as a crown prosecutor in Perth.

Commonwealth Bank chief executive Ian Narev said he is “delighted” with the appointment.

“In addition to her legal, regulatory, risk and governance expertise, she has shown herself to be a values-driven leader with strong commercial judgement,” he said.

Ms Lenahan will also assume the role of group executive for group corporate affairs, filling the position left when Mr Cohen moved into the group chief risk officer position.
