HSBC Bank Australia has confirmed the appointment of a new independent non-executive director this week.

Gail Pemberton will join the board effective from 28 October, where she brings over 35 years’ experience in financial services including ASX-listed and global companies.

She also currently serves on the boards of MNF, Sydney Metro and Land Services WA.

“Gail’s expertise, relationships and insight into Australia’s financial services sector is an invaluable addition to our board as we strengthen our position as a leading international bank in Australia,” HSBC Bank chairman of the board, Grant King said.

Ms Pemberton has previously worked as CIO and COO of fund services at Macquarie Bank, as well as CEO and managing director of Australia and New Zealand for BNP Paribas Securities Services.

In 2018, Ms Pemberton was awarded the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the finance and banking industry.

HSBC Bank Australia CEO Kaber Mclean added: “We’re looking forward to welcoming a director of Gail’s stature and experience to the board.”

Ms Pemberton's appointment comes after HSBC Bank was ranked the number one international bank for the 10th straight year in July.

A survey which interviewed 590 Australian-based corporate institutions ranked HSBC Bank as the number one for overall domestic market penetration among all international banks.
