Nikko Asset Management Australia has promoted one of its portfolio managers to lead its Australian fixed income division.

Darren Langer has become head of Australian fixed income at Nikko AM, after being in the role of senior portfolio manager.

Mr Langer has been with the company since 2008, with a reported 32 years in investment experience.

Nikko stated he had shown support and responsibility for its Australian multisector portfolios including the Australian bond strategy and the insurance and customised solutions segment of the Australian fixed income offering.

Sam Hallinan, Australian managing director at Nikko AM commented the company is excited to see Mr Langer at the helm of the fixed income team.

“Darren is an integral part of the growth and delivery of objectives for fixed income in Australia and in [helping generate] excess return for our clients,” Mr Hallinnan said.

The appointment has been made as Nikko’s Australian bond fund received an upgrade to “Recommended” from Zenith Investment Partners.

Nikko said the new rating recognised the investment capability and track record of Mr Langer alongside portfolio manager Chris Rands and the team.

“We are extremely proud of this achievement, which is a demonstration of the team’s relative value approach to Australian fixed income,” Mr Langer said.
