Specialist Australian equities manager Antares Equities has appointed Winston Chong as senior analyst and promoted Gehan Gunawardena to quantitative analyst, boosting its investment team to nine.

Mr Chong joins Antares from a large Melbourne-based family office where he was responsible for fundamental equity research and portfolio management across four Australian-listed equity portfolios. Prior to that role he held analyst positions with Antares and Goldman Sachs.

Mr Gunawardena commenced with Antares Equities in 2017 as performance and risk analyst, with extensive local and international experience as a software engineer and quantitative analyst.

“The appointment broadens the already deep investment knowledge of the Antares team and boosts research experience in mid and smaller cap stocks,” Mr Armitage said.

“At the same time, identifying a candidate as skilled as Gehan from within Antares not only means a seamless transition and great fit, but also highlights our support for developing and promoting strong talent from within.

“With these changes in place, Antares Equities is positioned with a full complement of experienced, capable investment professionals, all committed to the fundamental research process that has been at the heart of Antares since its formation in 1994. The team are stock pickers who use bottom-up research and integrate ESG considerations into their stock selection process.”

He is a CFA charter holder and is currently undertaking a Graduate Certificate of Social Impact at Swinburne University.
