Online marketplace and platform OpenInvest has made an addition to its board, saying it expects to grow the business with her experience of overseeing business and product launches.

Susan Allen has joined the board, having spent 16 years in a number of senior executive roles at the RACV and overseeing the company’s introductions of new insurance and home service businesses and products.

Ms Allen has governance experience as a director of companies in financial services, consumer services, logistics and distribution, as well as having worked in infrastructure and the public sector.

“We’re delighted to have Susan join the board,” Andrew Varlamos, co-founder and chief executive of OpenInvest said.

“Her varied experiences, especially at the RACV where she was involved in the launching of new products and services, as well as her various director roles, is exactly the skill set we need as we grow the business.”

Ms Allen said it is a good time to be joining the board, with the way Australian investors access professional assistance to change after the royal commission.

“As OpenInvest has been designed with investors’ needs in mind, I believe it’s poised to play a significant part in this change,” she said.

“I believe my experience in financial services, in particular, as well as a strong focus on the use of new technologies to solve consumer problems, equips me to provide valuable input to the OpenInvest board.”

OpenInvest was launched last November with SMSF trustees as the primary target. It offers investors a menu of investment managers to pick from.

Other non-executive directors are former Schroders Australia chief executive Greg Cooper, former director of Countplus and principal of the accounting industry consultancy Smithink David Smith and the founding managing director of CommSec Paul Rickard.
