Mary Padbury has been named as an independent director to the CBA board and will commence in the role immediately.
Ms Padbury, an intellectual property lawyer, has worked both in Australia and the UK and is currently vice-chairman of Ashurst, as well as partner with the firm's intellectual property practice in Melbourne.
Commonwealth Bank chairman David Turner said he was “delighted” Ms Padbury has joined the board.
“Her exemplary legal and governance skills, together with her international experience, will greatly benefit the bank’s board and will support the group’s vision and strategic initiatives,” he said.
Ms Padbury also sits on the Australian government’s professional standards board for patent and trademarks, and the Melbourne University Law School foundation board.
