Tom Laidlaw has been promoted to managing director of Infrastructure Capital Group (ICG) following the retirement of John Clarke.

Chair Mike Fitzpatrick will increase his day-to-day activity at the company to fill Mr Clarke’s position as chair of the investment committee while Andrew Pickering will take over the role of chair.

Mr Clarke will continue as a non-executive director to ensure a smooth transition for the new executive management committee.

Mr Clarke founded ICG as a joint venture with ANZ in 2000 as ANZ Infrastructure Services before acquiring ANZ’s shareholding in 2009 as part of a consortium led by current chair Mike Fitzpatrick.

Mr Pickering said Mr Clarke has been a pioneer in “identifying emerging investment opportunities both domestically and internationally and has created significant value for ICG investors over many years”.

“On behalf of the board of ICG, I would like to thank John for his invaluable contribution to the company,” he said.

“He has been instrumental in the development of ICG from inception into one of Australia’s leading, independent infrastructure managers with over $1.4 billion in equity funds under management.”
