Mr O’Brien is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, and was previously head of retail sales and marketing and then chief executive of Invesco Australia, up until June 2013.
He has also been chief investment officer at AXA Australia and New Zealand, where he supervised a portfolio of investment offerings and their associated investment managers, totalling $28 billion in funds under management.
Equity Trustees said Mr O’Brien has broad experience in all aspects of wealth management, including superannuation, funds management, insurance and advice over 30 years and in both retail and institutional markets.

Mr O’Brien will stand for election by shareholders at the annual general meeting in October this year.
