Anthony Healy has been appointed as managing director and chief executive of Bank of New Zealand (BNZ), replacing Andrew Thorburn, who will become NAB group chief executive in August this year.

Mr Healy will begin his role from 12 May 2014 and also join the NAB Group Executive Management Committee.

NAB Group chief executive Cameron Clyne said Mr Healy has led BNZ’s business bank, BNZ Partners, for four years and has shown “exceptional leadership and commercial acumen”.

“We are very pleased to be able to appoint a candidate of his calibre from within our own organisation,” said Mr Clyne.

Mr Thorburn said he believes Mr Healy will continue “to drive BNZ forward, ensuring that the franchise remains focused on delivering for our customers, shareholders and employees”.
