Tim Shanahan has been appointed as chair of WA Super, replacing Nick Catania, who will retire at the end of his current term.

Mr Shanahan has been the chair of the board’s compliance and risk management committee since 2004 and has 25 years of experience in director and chief executive roles.

He was executive director of the Western Australian Municipal Association for 10 years, and chief executive of the Western Australian Chamber of Minerals and Energy.

He also completed a term as president of the Royal Automotive Club.

Mr Catania said Mr Shanahan‘s association with companies within the resources, business and government sectors makes him the ideal chair.

“We are excited to be positioned as an industry leader with Tim as our independent chairman,” he said.

The appointment of Mr Shanahan as chair also coincides with the retirement of long-serving directors Alex Bajada and David James.
