Global First State Global Asset Management (GFSGAM) has appointed Wim Steemers as senior analyst within its Australian equities team.

Based in Sydney with the rest of the Australian Equities core team, Mr Steemers will be responsible for covering the large cap financials sector and selecting stock in all core portfolios.

He joins GFSGAM from his most recent role as senior research analyst at Macquarie Funds Group in Sydney where he covered domestic banking, insurance and diversified financial stocks.

Prior to this he was senior analyst at Bernstein Value Equities in both New York and London, where he researched global banking and financial stocks.

Mr Steemers also worked as a consultant for McKinsey & Company in Europe and the United States.

CFSGAM head of Australian Equities’ core team Mathew Reynolds said Mr Steemers has a thorough knowledge of Australian and global financial companies and more than 13 years of experience in the analysis of Australian banking stocks.

“His arrival will further strengthen the existing research capabilities we have in the Australian Equities core team,” said Mr Reynolds.

“The financial sector currently accounts for close to 40 per cent of the Australian share market and is therefore a key driver of investment performance,” he said.
