The Stockbrokers Association of Australia Limited has appointed Karl Morris as the new chairman of its board.

Mr Morris will be replacing outgoing chairman Rob Thomas, who announced the appointment at the 14th annual general meeting of the association.

Mr Morris has been executive chairman of Ord Minnett Limited since October 2009, following his time as chief executive and managing director at the firm.

He was a director of the Stockbrokers Association for six years from 2006 to 2012 and also holds a number of business and board positions at various organisations, including the University of Notre Dame, the Royal Automobile Club of QLD, the Queensland Theatre Company and the Catholic Development Fund.

Devoting his time to charitable work, he is also chairman and patron of Bravehearts Inc. and patron and founder of the Euthanasia No Foundation.

Managing director and chief executive of the Stockbrokers Association David Horsfield said the association was delighted to have someone of Mr Morris’ standing in the industry serve as its chairman.

Acknowledging the outgoing chairman, Mr Horsefield said Mr Thomas has been a “rock of support” throughout his 10 years of service in the position.

“His strategic thinking and his ability to cut through difficult issues has been outstanding,” he said.

“He will be sorely missed. He never ceased to have the stockbroking industry at heart.”
