CBA appoints Hong Kong managing director

The Commonwealth Bank has appointed Maaike Steinbach as country head and managing director of its institutional banking and markets business in Hong Kong.

Ms Steinebach is responsible for leading and developing operations in Hong Kong and working closely with local regulators.  

She will also lead and co-ordinate the group’s client coverage industry teams in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. 

Prior to taking on this role, Ms Steinebach was Hong Kong country executive for ABN Amro and Fortis Bank and managing director of its Large Corporates and Merchant Banking business in Asia.

She has 10 years' experience within the region, working in various roles across Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai. 

Commenting on the recent appointment, CBA's James Rickward, executive general manager for corporate and institutional banking, Asia, said: “Maaike’s extensive experience combined with her in-depth regional knowledge is a great addition to our business, and will add significant value and insight for our clients.” 

Mr Rickward said the Commonwealth Bank also looked forward to further developing its Asian operations.
