Nikko Asset Management has appointed a chief legal officer (CLO) to be responsible for all legal functions globally at Nikko AM.

The parent company of Tyndall Investment Management appointed Ross Long, effective 24 June.

Mr Long’s 30 years of legal and regulatory experience spans multiple jurisdictions globally and across the Asia-Pacific region, according to Nikko. This includes more than 15 years as group counsel at the CLSA Group, where he held a number of senior management and board member roles.

Nikko said the appointment would help it with its expansion plans and preparations for a future IPO.

Mr Long will report directly to Charles Beazley, chairman, president and chief executive of Nikko AM.

“Ross has a detailed understanding of the complex legal frameworks of Japan and many Asian countries, as well as a real comprehension of the cultural and linguistic practices that successful firms need to observe,” Mr Beazley said.

“As we accelerate our growth plans, the addition of Ross as CLO greatly strengthens our executive management team and governance.”
